HELP Big Ole' Stitching Dilemma

I need advice....I am doing the Village of Hawk Run Hollow. It is such a huge piece of material. I have tried those white snap-on holders, but it hurts my hands to hold them. I have tried rolling up the material and using safety pins to hold it, but that is awkward and I worry about the pins making bad places on the fabric. What do yawl use to manage all of the fabric?

Since I stitch in hand without a hoop or q-snaps, I roll my fabric in to the area I am stitching on. Then roll the excess from the other side and hold it with either binder clips or coated big paper clips. With the Village, I have also rolled it up from the bottom. I seems to work for me, but it really is a lot of fabric to deal with. Sometimes the binder clips makes it to heavy and they flop around and that is why I have also tried the paper clips.

Try a clothes peg. I have trouble with my baps too and tend to just screw the fabric up in my hand. Can't wait to see your progress on this one. I love the design. xx

I've used old fashioned clothes pins - the wooden kind - before, which at least aren't heavy and don't clonk too loud when you put the piece down. But they do come off sometimes...

I too am dealing with the large mass of fabic on the VoHRH SAL. When I use the white Qsnap it does help with the fabric, but I don't really like stitching with it. Maybe if you fold and hand baste the excess fabric, leaving just the area that you will be stitching on, it would be easier to handle.
I look forward to seeing your SAL pictures!

Thanks for your suggestions. I found a flat hoop that helps some. I usually don't use a hoop, but the arthritis in my hands makes holding a large bunch of fabric uncomfortable. I have some of those snap on things that I would be glad to give someone if they want them. They are just too big for me to handle.
